WHAT IS COSMETIC
MEDICINE? |
| |
|
Cosmetic is one of the
youngest branches of medicine. It has one goal: to help the patient
look younger and better without the use of surgery. This
accomplished by a combination of very minor but mostly non-surgical
techniques under local or topical anesthesia. The end-result is
patient-driven with guidance from the physician.
The most commonly performed procedures are Botox
injections and dermal fillers which include Juvederm and
Radiesse. |

BOTOX INJECTIONS |
| |
|
The ability of Botox
to reduce movement is taken advantaged of to reduce wrinkles created
by muscle contraction. These are called Dynamic Lines because they are created
by facial movements and include angry 11's, frown lines and crow's
feet. Static Lines are those present even before any movement. These
lines need dermal fillers to improve.
Botox injections for cosmetic reasons were approved only in 2002,
making them a relatively young procedure. But the millions of
injections every year prove, not only their effectivity but also,
their safety.Dr. Romero is the only
Black Diamond Botox Level Physician on Long Island, and only one of
23 in the nation. He is also a member of the very exclusive Allergan
Medical Facial Aesthetic Speakers Training (AMFAST) speakers' group.

DERMAL FILLERS |
| |
|
Dermal fillers, in
contrast to Botox, are mainly used to reduce deep Static Lines.
Static lines are those that stay even without any facial movement
and worsened by movement. Examples of static lines are nasolabial
folds, Marionette's lines and pre-jowl sulci.

Dr. Romero prefers Radiesse when moderate plumping is desired as in
cheek augmentation and deep nasolabial folds. He prefers Juvederm
for fine lines and for lip augmentation.
